Mass Customized Learning: Breaking the Barriers of Industrial Age Education Mass Customized Learning concretely describes a technologically empowered, learner-focused alternative to our present industrial age, assembly line school structure. What if every day, every learner came to school and was met with customized learning activities at his or her precise developmental and achievement level, was learning in his or her most effective learning styles with content of interest, was challenged, was successful and left school eager to come back tomorrow? This is not only possible with today's technologies, it is inevitable. Industry has figured out how to mass customize products and services, education is poised for this leap. |

Successful 1:1 implementations require coordinating numerous components over several years and a process to achieve improved effectiveness and efficiencies. Only Pearson offers the comprehensive approach that research shows is necessary for schools to achieve the right return on their investment. By integrating our portfolio of offerings and expertise, Pearson 1:1 Learning can help educators get results from their 1:1 initiatives—whether they are starting from scratch, in the midst of implementation, or seeking to expand and refine their existing 1:1 program. Based on research and best practices, Pearson's 1:1 Learning Framework has been developed for school districts planning to implement wide-scale mobile computing initiatives to provide dynamic learning experiences that successfully prepare K–12 students for college and careers and most of all—the world. |
Dr. Karen Lochbaum is Vice President of Technology services for Pearson’s Knowledge Technologies group where she is responsible for the delivery of technology services to all of Knowledge Technologies’ clients. Brough to us by Pearson |
Knowledge Technologies In the 1990s, the people of Pearson’s Knowledge Technologies group (KT) invented many of the key techniques that enable automatic scoring of constructed language in assessment tasks. In the succeeding 15 years, Pearson has assembled these researchers into an advanced development group with an intellectual property base that is unparalleled in the assessment field. Now, working as a unique stand-alone group inside Pearson, KT has automatically scored many millions of written and spoken responses. KT has measured core language and literacy skills as evidenced in students’ constructed responses. Similar tasks also elicit responses that are assessed for content knowledge. (Additional knowledge about products and research can be found at www.pearsonkt.net; www.versant.com; writetolearn.net.) In 2010 KT scored over 20 million spoken and written responses from all over the globe. |

Creating the Buzz You Want—Thinking Your Way Through to the Right Message Most of us begin our “Messaging Preparation” with the question – What should I say? But I want to show you five questions prior to that, all to help you set the right lens through which to look BEFORE deciding what you’ll say. This will give you the focus you need – and, therefore, the results. Hint: The first question you’ll ask is: What is my subject? |
Moving the Camera Too often we allow someone else to determine where we look and what we must address, and often this puts us on the defense, which, as you know, weakens us. Why not just move the camera? We'll talk about ways to do that, as well as how to find the "gift" of the statement/question anyone poses, especially in tough situations. In addition, we'll talk about the all-important 90 percent factor, which is what makes or breaks most communications opportunities. |
What Kind of a Contributor are You?– to the Positive or the Negative? People frequently say, “Oh, I’m VERY positive.” Most of us don’t realize we often say things or give facial expressions or body language that exudes a negative persona. Come learn how your body language, facial expressions and words send negative messages and how to replace them with positive signs. |
